Bishop Javier Valdez is a servant leader with over two decades of experience in strategic international forecasting, management, cross-cultural engagement, and leadership development. He began his professional journey in the private sector, contributing to publishing brands such as Scholastic, Cengage Learning, and National Geographic, where he created global systems that had wide-reaching impact.  In 2022, fueled by a deep desire to see that impact locally in his community, he began transitioning to the nonprofit sector, bringing with him his passion for Multicultural Organizing, Community Empowerment, and Next-Gen Leadership.  That same year, he was honored by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an “Ambassador of Latino Culture”, a testament to his unwavering commitment to equity, advocacy, and cultural integrity.

Ordained into the priesthood in 2017 and consecrated a Bishop in April 2024, he now serves as the Rector of The Gathering Place North Shore - a diverse, mission-driven church rooted in the historic Christian Faith. Under his leadership, the congregation is committed to developing leaders who champion biblical justice in the city of Lynn and neighboring communities.  He is a graduate of the inaugural cohort of the Institute for Paleo-Orthodox Christian Studies at New York Theological and holds a Master of Arts in Cultural Studies from Asbury Theological.  His academic and career background has given him a culturally fluent worldview that helps him navigate complex systems and develop inclusive strategies that respect global perspectives while honoring local realities.  He also brings insights into how diverse communities interpret meaning, identity, and purpose.

His commitment to fostering diverse, empowered communities is reflected in his current role as Community Manager for The Lynn Calm Team, Lynn’s first unarmed response team. The initiative is evidence-based and rooted in harm reduction and trauma-informed care for non-violent public safety matters.  He is a member of the board of Bishops of the Union of Charismatic Orthodox Churches and continues to advocate for multiethnic collaboration and sustainable community transformation with his influence by sitting on the board of directors with The Lynn Cultural Council, The Northshore Juneteenth Association, The Lynn Community Health Center, Lynn’s Citizen Advisory board, and, most recently, appointed human rights commissioner.

Beyond his professional and ministerial endeavors, Bishop Javier finds his greatest joy in his family. He has been married to his wife, Kendwy, since 2010, and together they cherish their daughters, Kiana and Kamilah.
